FAIRTRADE FORUM Wednesday 21 July 2004 Room L Civic Offices Action notes: Present: Sue James, Barbara Edney, Pat Carter, Mike Dobson, Margaret Quinn, Jasmine Fletcher. Apologies: Mandy Lindley, Julia Wickson, Doreen Walker, Anne Carpenter, Sarah Hirom. Minutes of meeting Tuesday 15 June 2004 The minutes were discussed and agreed. Review of Festival of Co-operation 3 & 4 July The event went well with lots of interest being shown. £83 was made on the day of which £66 has been given to Christine and £17 to the Fairtrade account. Sue stated that she still had a lot of flyers left over from the event. Sue then distributed a list of materials that the Fairtrade Forum currently holds. Action Point: · The list of materials to be constantly updated. · Sue to investigate with Havant Fairtrade group materials being made available at Havant College. · More badges to be purchased Barbara explained that she had met with Maureen Blair's replacement Fairtrade Award Sue passed around a letter from the Fairtrade Federation, Portsmouth Fairtrade Forum has won the imagination award as their event was among the most innovative events. The award will be presented at a campaigns day in October.
Action Point: · Sue to circulate date when known Financial Report Sue passed around the financial accounts and explained the need to keep the Fairtrade accounts correct and up to date from now on. It was suggested that a boot sale could take place to raise money to repay Christine. Action Points: · Jasmine to check financial accounts with Mandy · Margaret to investigate re boot sale. Future Events Mike gave a short presentation on the work of Trade Craft and passed around a paper copy of the presentation. It was decided that long term planning was essential. Multi-cultural festival 5 September- the problem of finding volunteers was discussed. Action Point: · Mike will discuss with Jenny on her return from holiday to see if trade Craft traders are available to co-ordinate the Trade Craft stall at the Multi-cultural festival. · Barbara, Sue and Margaret to volunteer on the 5 September · Barbara to investigate who will pay for the stall. Party in the Park 14 August - Doreen Walker will have a stall organised. Margaret will investigate and attend on the day. Southsea Show - Nothing arranged for this year but would endeavour to arrange something for next year. Action Point: · Sue to add Southsea show to action plan One World Week - Sue to send Margaret the event leaflet. Publicity Sue sent an article to Karen Traviss PCC Media department and information to Mandy Lindley for the PCC Voluntary Sector Unit monthly mailing. Fairtrade publicity signs for the City are to be discussed at the Council meeting on Tuesday 27 July. Trade Justice Action event on 26 September in Brighton is good chance for publicity. Christian Aid has organised a coach from Portsmouth to Brighton. Amy Allen is the person to contact. Materials for schools Educational materials are available from the Fairtrade Foundation. It was discussed that a display could be put up at the Professional Centre to advertise the Educational Packs. Café Week 4-10 October Priority will be given to this at the next Fairtrade Forum Meeting. Samples will be needed. Action Point: · Margaret to take Fairtrade information (Newsletter and Directory) to Café Parrisienne and Snookies. · 3-4 cafes to be chosen to focus on for café week (Ottokars?)
