FAIRTRADE FORUM Wednesday 15th September 2004 Room L Civic Offices Present: Barbara Edney, Margaret Quinn, Mandy Lindley and Carolyn Lowndes Apologies: Sue James, Mike Dobson, Sarah Hirom, Anne Carpenter, Pat Carter and Doreen Walker 1. Minutes of meeting 21st July 2004 Carolyn's apologies were missed of the minutes. Havant College are serving a full range of Fairtrade products in their café for students. The Fairtrade award will be presented on the 2nd October. Mandy had checked the presentation style of the accounts and confirmed that they were fine, she also explained the new grant form and the need to think now about an application for the next year. The forum didn't do a stall for the party in the park event. Carolyn reported to the group re publicity for Fairtrade Margaret is going to the Trade Justice action on 26/9 the vote for trade justice will be put in all councillors' pigeonholes. Mandy has visited the Catering manager Clive Marshall re provisions and can confirm that tea and coffee is now available in the staff canteen. The fairtrade certificate is displayed in pride of place in corporate reception at the civic offices. Café week Margaret will take information to café Parisian and Snookies. 2. Multicultural Festival The event went well and it was a lovely day, forum members spent time talking to children and secured votes for trade justice. Small items sold better than larger items something to bear in mind for future events. The stall was paid for by World Development Movement. 3. Car Boot Sale Margaret Quinn has held one sale. 4. Party in the Park Already covered. 5. Treasurer's Report Current balance £525.15. £25.00 to be paid for website 6. Review By Portsmouth City Council PCC is reviewing its support for Fairtrade and a report was shared with the meeting, which has been prepared as background for the process. Carolyn is on the review panel along with councillor Worley and others. The review will take place on Thursday 30th September at 4pm at the Civic offices. The meeting is open to all. PCC Ground reception will be able to let people know which meeting the room is in. The general feeling is that the review is a positive thing and will raise the profile and needs of the forum in terms of resources and support. 7. Signage Carolyn had arranged for a question about Fairtrade signage for the city to be raised at full council on 27th July 2004. The Leader of the council has directed that these be put up when the city next changes its signs. Mandy has been investigating the process involved working with the department or Economic Development and hopefully the review will also address this issue. 8. Plans For Fairtrade Fortnight The meeting felt it would be a good idea to link up with other organisations and national events. A tea party in Lord Mayors Parlour was one suggestion. It was general agreed some sort of birthday bash was needed. 9. Café Week Margaret will visit some cafes, Twix have requested samples and will send samples to PCC Community Centres for Fairtrade Fortnight. 10. One World Week A couple of churches are planning to link to promote Fairtrade. 11. Trade Justice Action 120 cards collected at multicultural festival. There is a sign making session prior to Brighton rally Sunday 2-4 at St Simon's church Waverley Road Date of next meeting Wednesday 20th October at 6.00pm please note new time at Civic Offices 12. |
