To download 'Unequal Resources' a simulation game to aid understanding of the power dynamic behind unfair trade rules.

 

 For Students

There are thousands of things students can do:

  • Arranging a tasting of Fairtrade products (People and Planet supply packs)

  • Arranging an Assembly (Ideas available from People and Planet)

  • Getting Fairtrade themes into coursework

  • Arranging a Publicity Stunt

  • Writing to supermarkets (and following up their replies)

  • Producing a newsletter

  • Arranging a display, maybe about the background to a particular product

  • Find out about becoming a Fairtrade school

  • Getting friends to request Fairtrade products in shops and cafés

  • Try becoming a Dubble agent ww.dubble.co.uk

Global Dimension is an excellent way to find ideas and resources

Their site includes a calendar of events

Fairtrade in Norfolk includes a range of downloadable resources:

The Coop has loads of interactive materials and downloadable packs.

The Young Co-operatives is an initiative to help secondary school students and other young people to establish and run their own co-operative businesses selling Fairtrade products

Dubble is a chocolate bar aimed at children and their site has lots of ideas.

You can also enter the Divine chocolate poetry competition (7+)

Traidcraft is an organisation selling fairly traded products. They have useful background information plus resources for teachers:

Tearfund is a big Christian relief organisation which also imports fairly traded goods.

BAFTS, the British association of Fairtrade Shops has resource sheets including background information on their products.

The Methodist Relief and Development Fund has produced good materials.

People and Planet is a group working with students, including sixth forms. They are also involved with the Fairtrade schools initiative.

Jubilee Debt Campaign is still calling for debt cancellation  and has lots of useful resources:

World Development Movement  Has lots of background briefings on aid, trade and debt

One World Week 21-28  October. A special week each year to think about our links with the rest of the world:

Friends of the Earth

Windwards Bananas have produced some excellent resources including a free CD for KS 2 and new resources on Fairtrade and bananas for KS 3.

UNICEF have good resources for young people on global issues

Globaleye is a site produced by Worldaware for the Department of International Development and has a good archive of articles on Development topics.
